Currents in Contemporary Ethics: Meeting the Growing Demands of Genetic Research.Amy L. McGuire & Richard A. Gibbs - 2006 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 34 (4):809-812.
The promise of personalized medicine and the quest for a greater understanding of the genetic basis of disease has transformed the research enterprise. The Director of the National Institutes of Health, Elias A. Zerhouni, M.D., recently predicted “that comprehensive, genomics- based health care will become the norm, with individualized preventive medicine and early detection of illnesses.” This excitement about the potential scientific and clinical advances that may come from genomics- based research has led several NIH institutions to launch initiatives for (...)

La Fidélité en Traduction Juridique: Stratégies de Traduction, de L’anglais Vers le Français, de Vrais et Faux Amis. [REVIEW]Isabelle Richard - 2013 - International Journal for the Semiotics of Law - Revue Internationale de Sémiotique Juridique 26 (3):651-671.

Whistleblowing and Caterpillar Inc.’s Swiss Tax Strategy.Amy Lysak, Richard Marmon & Edward J. Schoen - 2020 - Journal of Business Ethics Education 17:237-250.
This case describes the background of the whistleblower complaint, filed by Daniel Schlicksup, questioning the propriety of Caterpillar Inc.’s “Swiss tax strategy”. The Swiss tax strategy was recommended by its independent auditor, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and designed to transfer to a Swiss entity the profits earned on its sales of “purchased finished replacement parts” to foreign marketers. This strategy enabled Caterpillar to shift $8 billion in replacement parts sales to Switzerland and to avoid or defer paying U.S. taxes on that income. Daniel (...)

Aggressive And Loving Men: Gender Hegemony in Christian Hardcore Punk.Amy D. McDowell - 2017 - Gender and Society 31 (2):223-244.
This research uses Christian Hardcore punk to show how evangelical Christian men respond to changes in gender relations that threaten hegemonic masculinity through a music subculture. Drawing on interviews and participant observations of live music shows, I find that Christian Hardcore ministry involves a hybrid mix of aggressive and loving performances of manhood. Christian Hardcore punk men fortify the idea that men and women are essentially opposites through discourse and the segregation of music spaces, even as they deviate from dominant (...)

Ethik im Weltkontext: Geschichten - Erscheinungsformen - neuere Konzepte.Ḥamīd Riz̤ā Yūsufī & Harald Seubert (eds.) - 2014 - Wiesbaden: Springer VS.

    Multi‐Level Linguistic Alignment in a Dynamic Collaborative Problem‐Solving Task.Nicholas D. Duran, Amie Paige & Sidney K. D'Mello - 2024 - Cognitive Science 48 (1):e13398.
Cocreating meaning in collaboration is challenging. Success is often determined by people's abilities to coordinate their language to converge upon shared mental representations. Here we explore one set of low‐level linguistic behaviors, linguistic alignment, that both emerges from, and facilitates, outcomes of high‐level convergence. Linguistic alignment captures the ways people reuse, that is, “align to,” the lexical, syntactic, and semantic forms of others' utterances. Our focus is on the temporal change of multi‐level linguistic alignment, as well as how alignment is (...)

    Learning from broken rules: Individualism, bureaucracy, and ethics.Amy Rossiter, Richard Walsh-Bowers & Isaac Prilleltensky - 1996 - Ethics and Behavior 6 (4):307 – 320.
The authors discuss findings from a qualitative research project concerning applied ethics that was undertaken at a general family counseling agency in southern Ontario. Interview data suggested that workers need to dialogue about ethical dilemmas, but that such dialogue demands a high level of risk taking that feels unsafe in the organization. This finding led the researchers to examine their own sense of "breaking rules" by suggesting an intersubjective view of ethics that requires a "safe space" for ethical dialogue. The (...)

Alliance Network Centrality, Board Composition, and Corporate Social Performance.Craig D. Macaulay, Orlando C. Richard, Mike W. Peng & Maria Hasenhuttl - 2018 - Journal of Business Ethics 151 (4):997-1008.
What critical characteristics do firms have that determine the scale and scope of corporate social responsibility activities they undertake? This paper examines two disparate predictors of corporate social performance. First, using the lens of the resource-based view, we examine the role of alliance network centrality on corporate social performance. We find that centrality enhances corporate social performance. Second, we investigate how board composition affects corporate social performance. Specifically, drawing on stakeholder theory, we find that the percentage of female directors predicts (...)

Applied Ethics in Mental Health in Cuba: Part I-Guiding Concepts and Values.Amy Rossiter, Richard Walsh-Bowers, Isaac Prilleltensky & Laura Sánchez Valdés - 2002 - Ethics and Behavior 12 (3):223-242.
As part of a project on professionals' lived experience of ethics, this article explores the guiding concepts and values concerning ethics of mental health professionals in Cuba. The data, obtained through individual interviews and focus groups with 28 professionals, indicate that Cubans conceptualize applied ethics in terms of its central role in professional practice and its connection to the social context and subjective processes. Findings also show that Cuban professionals are guided not only by a set of professional values but (...)
